9CCG Community Benefit Funding Matrix
The first 3 rounds of community benefit to be disbursed to our 9 communities for local groups, organisations and projects will be from the North Kyle Wind Farm’s Boost Funding.
The specific allocations for each community are determined using a fair-share and equitable method - referred to as ‘The Matrix’. The 3 indicators that calculate each individual communities’ allocation are:
Population
Distance from turbines
Scottish index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD)
THE FAIR-SHARE MATRIX
How it Works
Each Wind Farm with community benefit funds managed and administered by the 9CC Group has their own individual Fair-share Funding Matrix.
The Matrix is a unique and equitable method of distributing community benefit funds to each of the individual nine communities based on the following three indicators:
Population
33% of the total CBF is allocated using a ranking system with the largest populated community scoring 9, the second largest populated community scoring 8 and so on until the lowest populated community scoring 1.
The ranking scores are aggregated together then divided to provide an equal allocation per point scored.
Therefore, the community with the largest population would have a ranking score of 9.
Scottish Indices of Multiple Deprivation (SIMDs)
33% of the total CBF is allocated using a ranking system with the community having the most Data Zones within the highest 10% and 20% deprivation rates within the Scottish Indices of Multiple Deprivation scoring 9, the community having the second most Data Zones scoring 8 and so on until the community having the least scoring 1.
The ranking scores are aggregated together then divided to provide an equal allocation per point scored.
Therefore, the community with the most Data Zones within the highest 10% and 20% deprivation rates within the Scottish Indices of Multiple Deprivation would score 9.
Proximity to Nearest Turbine
33% of the total CBF is allocated using a ranking system with the community closest to Nearest Turbine scoring 9, the community second closest scoring 8 and so on until the community farthest away from the Nearest Turbine scoring 1.
The ranking scores are aggregated together then divided to provide an equal allocation per point scored.
Therefore, the community being closest to the nearest turbine would have a ranking score of 9.
As standard, ranking each of the three indicators 1-9 would result in 45 parts. Where two or more communities share the same Population, SIMD score or Proximity to Nearest Turbine, those communities would be ranked the same, resulting in more ‘parts’.
