Auchinleck, as a village, has existed for centuries although, the one we know today probably has its roots in the 19th century. Over the years it has grown into a thriving community that is proud of its heritage and of its people.

Patna and Polnessan are located in the Doon Valley beside the River Doon and on the A713, approximately 7 miles from Ayr. It is near the villages of Waterside, Dalmellington and Kirkmichael, and close to the Dark Sky Observatory at Craigengillan and a 13th-century castle at Loch Doon.

The village of Ochiltree is just under 12 miles due east of Ayr on the A70 to Cumnock and is the largest settlement in the community area. Skares is located some three miles southwest of Cumnock.

New Cumnock comprises six character or functional areas, each with their distinct building types and uses.

The area sits on the southernmost outskirts of Cumnock surrounded by open countryside and farmland. The farms are made up mostly of mixed farms i.e. cattle, sheep and crops.

The parish of Lugar, an area of approximately 80km², encompasses the three settlements of Cronberry, Logan and Lugar and 11 farm steadings.

Drongan originally known as Taiglum, is a former mining village situated on the western edge of Ayrshire, some 8 miles from Ayr and 8 miles from Cumnock.

Dalmellington parish lies at the southern tip of East Ayrshire, approximately 15 miles from Ayr on the A713 Ayr to Castle Douglas road, which is part of the stunning Galloway Tourist Route.

Cumnock is the second largest town in East Ayrshire and sits at the junction of the A70, Ayr to Edinburgh route and the A76, Kilmarnock to Dumfries route.
